Wiring diagrams for a ignition module on a yamaha
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
The post is under an 81 Yamaha XJ650 and the need is for the wiring diagram (
of the ignition module). Should you be interested,
here is the wiring diagram of the entire bike.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
The fuel wont go through the lines to get it
You're bike may be equipped with a vacuum operated petcock. See if the fuel valve has a "prime" position on it. If so, put it in this position. If you still don't get any fuel to the carb, you'll have to remove the petcock from the tank and clean the screen or unstop the petcock. I'd put a manual petcock in and block the vacuum line.
If you already have a manual petcock and you're not getting fuel, remove the petcock, clean the screen, and blow air through the petcock in both the "On" postition and the "Res" position.
Engine heating up think it cuz of points or timing
3 things can make a engine run hot
1 lean fuel mixture
2 late in spark timing
3 timing chian is stretched
1 check spark plug colour to determine if burning lean
2 advance timing, on points turn plate but eletronic need to change pick-coil loaction
3 adjust chain tensioner or major overhaul replace chain, would need to get a manual for this repair
Signal lights work but don't flash how do I fix
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
If the XJ650 has still the original flash, then its flash rate is a functiion of the current flow; i.e. the higher the current, the faster the flash. If the new signal lights are not of the same / lower wattage as the original signal light bulbs, then the flasher will not work.
Solutions would require replacing the flasher unit with an electronic version something similar to
this.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
1981 650 maxim,we have spark & fuel,cranks but
You need three things to get the engine to run. You need fuel, which you say you've got, spark, which you say you've got, and compression. You said the engine turns over but you didn't mention whether or not it sounded like it had compression. I could have some compression but not enough as well. I'd check for valves standing open or, in the case that this engine has an overhead cam, a jumped cam chain. If the cam chain jumps timing, the valves could be out of time with the engine. Sometimes you get by with this and simply replacing the chain fixes the problem. In other cases, I've seen bent valves and holes punched into the pistons. Get a compression gauge and do a compression test on the engine. Good Luck.
Have an '81 Yamaha Maxim. It quit running, gets
If you have all three thing it should run. If the timing is off it wont run. If the compression is down it wont run. Give us some history on the bike and how it was running before this started. Did you do any work to it before this started. Let us know.
Need the specifications for adjusting the
not sure what the exact spec are but if you lay it upside down on a table, look to see if the floats are level to the horizon of the earth. If they aren't bend the small push tab one way or the other to achieve level. I am sure there are spec on this but that is how all the mechanics I have ever worked with did it. Just my two cents

Is likely to be found in the Clymer Service manual. Yo may find one at yer Yamaha dealer, or online. Also check the library reference section- 646 stacks.
2001 v star 650 classic won't idle after being stored
You have a gummed up mainjet. Always store a gas engine with Staybul gas additive to avoid this problem in the future. Now, on to the current problem. Since the bike will at least idle your in luck. Just go down to an auto parts store and get a can of Sea Foam. I usually find it at NAPA it's a white can that looks like it came from a gas station in the 1940's Because it did. Mechanics have been useing it for years. Anyway, dump about half the can in the tank with a couple gallons of gas and fire it up. Let it idle a long time. Then start trying to ride it. You may have to let it set over night if it's really gummed up but it will clean it out. Easy fix, and you can leave it in with no problems. Happy motoring.
Gear shaft
If you are trying to change the boot over the U joint at the swing arm, you don't need to remove any shaft to do that. You do however have to remove the swing arm.
