You do not need a new belt seeing it was replaced, setting the timing should solve the problem, however this is something that should be done by a good mechanic.

Need to set timing from scratch on 1993 Mercury Tracer 1.9L

On the pulley, they are marks that line up with a mark on the head. That is TDC for the cam. Then set the crank to 0 on the timing marks. Put the belt back on.

Timing belt broke intalled new one and need to set timing on 1992 toyota corolla

Not sure I understand your question.
If you did not move the distributor, and the marks are lined up on the cam and crank gears, the timing should still be correct.

Engine quit on the road had new engine put in still willnot start seems to be off time but assured timming is set correctly replaced ecm still no help please help

If it has a coil pack the timing is partially adjusted by the ECM using readings from other sensors such as the Cam position sensor and the crank position sensor but if the timing belt wasn't set correctly to begin with that won't be able to make the adjustments needed.

How to change my timing belt for a 97 mecury mystique gs 2.0

There are so many steps. After removing everything so you can get to the timing belt you need to make sure you have the engine set so the #1 Cylinder is TDC. Remove the old belt and re-install the new one. If you need step by step directions on how to do any of this I recommend you get the Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle since it will show you those and give you instructions on how to make sure your at TDC. If you try putting that belt on without being set to TDC the engine is not going to run correctly.

Ive put a new waterpump an timing belt into my 94 gsr an i need to no how to set the timing on the top end. IM REALLY GRATEFULL IF ANYONE NO'S THE SETTINGS????????

There are specific marks on the cam pully and the crank pully that line up with marks on the block for the crank pully and on the timing belt cover for the cam pully they need to be lined up to get correct timing.

Trying to set timing belt (new )

Be very careful with this timing belt change.
The key setting is to get the crankshaft and camshaft properly synchronized !
I believe this is an "interference" engine. If the crankshaft and camshaft are not set properly the valves will hit the pistons and be bent ! That would destroy the engine.
DO NOT TURN OVER THE ENGINE UNTIL THIS IS SET CORRECT

No you will not hear the valves hitting the pistons - you will hear the engine turning over faster than normal because you have lost compression.
The engine has marks on the gears and pulleys that will align with marks on the engine block at TDC which should be done before the timing belt is removed ! If you have did not do that and either the crankshaft or camshaft has moved, you have a problem. You can get a manual from the library, auto supply store, eBay or a manual seller.

Putting on the timing belt could use an extra set of hands- when you line up
the marks and the engine is at TDC, the injection pump has some spring tension
and will jump back one tooth. this means you have to hold the pump pulley in
place while putting on the belt. so an extra set of hands makes things much
easier.

Serpetine belt

There is a small pulley called a tensioner pulley. The pulley is spring loaded. The pullye uses a 15mm or 3/8 rachet head to move it. You have to leverage it out of the way. The entire belt can fall off once you relieve tension. Careful the pulley will lash back once you release counter pressure. There is a diagram of how the belt is laced thru the pulleys. Use the diagram to put the new belt back on. Hook the entire belt in the system and than pull the tensioner back with the rachet or wrench and loop the last little bit of belt over the last pulley. You will not be able to fully lace the belt without moving the pulley out fo the way. You might have a second set of hands to help hold the belt. The first time is the hardest. Good luck and let me know if all went well.
