Changed the oil on my 2006 accent one week ago. Have made a few 50 mile trips since the change with no problems and no leakage. Today on the highway the oil and engine lights came on. Loud valve-type ticking, by still no oil leak. Level was slightly low, added oil lights went off....for a short time. Oil pump??? Any other possibilities? $$$$?? Thanks!

Have the vehicle properly diagnosed... it could very well be the oil pump - don't risk burning up the engine by oil starvation... get someone to check the oil pressure.

I have 54000 miles on my chevy colbalt had the oil changed 3 months ago everything was fine no problems now I had my oil changed today and they said my front tires are bald they are only two year old drive...

Sounds like this shop is trying to take advantage of you because you're a female and unlikely to be knowledgeable about cars. If you have a male relative. friend, significant other, co-worker, etc. , ask him to take your car to this shop and ask the service advisor about the condition of the tires. I'd bet a week's pay that he gets a different story (of course, I'm now retired so I don't get paid weekly LOL). It's a cruel and all to common practice. If you can't enlist any help, take your car to a different shop and have them check it out. I think you're being swindled..

I do have this question

If your dates are correct, then you would be going from Jan 2011 to Oct 2012 for the oil change. That is too long of an interval even if the car was driven less than 3000-5000 Miles.

If you use your car for short trips, the moisture condensates in the oilpan. The active additives contained in the oil are affected over time. Part of your usage problem is that the oil is not holding up.

You can easily be burning oil if you left the oil in the engine too long. With the contaminants grinding the bearings and the rings you could have too much clearance to keep the oil in place.

Also oil can be Seasonal. You use different Weights or thicknesses of oil as the protection needs vary between extreme heat and extreme cold with air temperature. So if the length of time between oil changes was really what you said, then part of the time the engine needed oil to match the driving conditions and you could have done better.

So part of your problem can be excess wear inside the engine and the oil just burned off.

2006 Toyota Corolla le - maintenance light on front panel - engine serviced with oil and air filter changed two months ago. All liquids fine, car working well...what might it be??

  • That light is an indicator that the required miles have been drove and it's time to do an oil change. The light should be reset after every oil change as the computer keeps track of the miles to warn you when it's time again should you forget.

  • If you want to turn the light off then follow these steps.

  • Push and hold the trip button and then turn the ignition to on while holding the trip reset button. Keep holding for 10 seconds and the maintenance required light will go offf.

1. To reset MAINT reminder light after engine oil replacement, turn ignition switch to OFF position with odometer reading showing. Turn ignition switch to ON position while holding down trip meter RESET button.
2. Hold trip meter RESET button down for at least 5 seconds. Odometer should indicate "000000" and MAINT reminder light goes out.

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

Warning lights

Feel safe about your trip as this a only warning lights that some issues are at hand concerning your car, it does not mean you can not travel 1000miles.

Just take your car for a scan and it will all be corrected.
