99 Buick Regal 3800 Series Motor. Ran out of gas on a downhill, coasted to a level spot, restarted, drove about 1/4 mile to gas station filled up and would crank but would only ocassionally turn over then die approx 1 minute later. Hoping I didn't burn up the fuel pump, need to troubleshoot later this week. Figured I'd start by checking pressure on fuel rail (how will the pressure react if fuel filter is clogged? low pressure or will the pressure show ok), then check/replace fuel filter. Any other ideas?

SOURCE: will start then dies

On the regals they have a ceramic resistor on the passanger side under the fender. It heats up and over time it tends to brake and the wire inside tends to rust away. The fuel pumps run in 2 different speeds. Had the same problem. Dealer only part yet the car would run and you would think it was the fuel pump. Turn the key it kicks on then start and dies out. Ceramic on the pass side would need replaced. It is white about 2-3 inches long or so held on with 2 bolts i do believe. Ill find a bulliten i found online to help me diagnos the problem. :) hopefully this helps someone out instead of spendin $$$ that ya cant afford with the recession eh?

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.

It's probably the mass airflow sensor and/or oxygen sensors.

SOURCE: 99 buick regal won't start

Hello, the Regal seems to have that problem. Insert your key in the ignition and turn it but do not turn the car on, make sure you here the fuel pump kick in, then at the end of you r fuel rail there should be a cap, remove it, use a very thin screw driver and push that part in, Be careful it's going to squirt gas, that's a good sign. If it does not, check your fuel filter. And last, if nothing above described works first check your negative wire on your fuel pump, second your injectors, they might be clogged.
Best of luck, God Bless.

1989 Buick Regal Limited Oil in Engine?

It depends on how much oil and how long the engine ran if any.
If you put in 2 quarts too much but did not start the engine, no worries.
if you put in 2 quarts too much and drove it for 50 miles, you could have damaged some seals and they may start leaking. Odds are you did not damage anything internally.

You name it ive done it!!!! I have a 99 regal with the 3800 series 2 and it is running rough either at idle oe driving and every once in awhile it will just die but starts right back !!! any ideas?

I have a 1988 Buick Century and was having trouble diagnosing a similar issue. $70 and an idle air motor (really looks more like a solenoid-driven valve) solved 60% of the problem...still working on the lagging on the high end, but driving it every day. Good luck!

My 98 Buick Le Sabre's power steering stopped working. Car ran okay and was able to get to gas station. My car is now at 64,000 miles exactly when a clunking noise first happened, then a whining sound...

You maybe blew a hose, did you notice power steering fluid running on the ground? Did you check the fluid level, did the belt come off? You may have to have it towed to a shop, there could be a problem with the rack and pinion.

go the cheapest route. replace fuel filter and add SEAFOAM to tank of premiun fuel. replace filter before 500 miles. then add SEAFOAM to gas every 3000 miles to keep lines.engine, fuel pump, and emissions systems clean, ETHANOL problem number 3000
