I had a chevrolet cavalier once that had a clogged exhaust. i was driving and the catalytic converter fell apart, and clogged the exhaust system. I completely lost power, and barely got home. Try getting your arm under the car, and hit the catalytic converter with your had, or a mallet. If it has fallen apart and failed, you should hear a clattering sound. Try inspecting the whole exhaust system, looking for bends in the exhaust pipes. When my catalytic converter failed, i also heard a hissing sound when it was running, and the engine was slightly overheating because of the restriction in the exhaust.
!!GOOD LUCK!!
Matt

1999 infiniti i30 automobile. it has loss of power.

Well could be the shop burned up a wire or did not reconnect a plug. Take it back to the shop and find out what they may have done wrong. If that all checks out. Maybe you have a clogged exhaust part or debris in the pipe stopping exhaust flow. I would look at the cats first . But have to wonder if the weld job damage something

Why is the car not starting? its a 98 Ford Taurus SE the key turns and the power is on but it wont start.

Maybe no spark from ignition system (no spark at the spark plugs), or the fuel pump not getting fuel to engine. Sudden no starts are usually from loss of spark or gas.

Engine light is on. started off flashing. loss of power and wont go over 3500rpm. air filter is good. also air conditioning went out at the same time. belt is intack

I would check the exhaust. this could be a catalytic converter that is bad and disrupting the flow of exhaust out. This will cause what you are describing.

Car has loss of power and the check engine light blinks

The check engine light will blink if there is a serious problem that could damage the catalytic converter. The loss of power could be multiple things such as a misfire or maybe even a catalytic converter that has failed and is clogging the exhaust. Have it scanned to see what the codes are and go from there.

Power (acceleration) loss at mid-high RPM only

Loss of acceleration, the backpressure noise and such are kinda tell tale signs of that converter having problems, feel the exhaust out of the tailpipe it will be warm normally have someone step on the gas and if its super hot it'd be a step in the right direction.

Flashing oil light/ loss of power

Check your converter on your exhaust when it's running and see if the noise of rattling is coming from there. If it is you have a plugged converter,it's broken up and in piece's which will make noise and no power especially when calling for power.Be sure to let exhaust cool before repair is done.If the engine is making the noise like a knocking sound you should bring it to have it checked.Hope this help's.

No power

your catalytic converter could be plugged up. try reving engine in neutral and if it sounds labored or slow then this could be your problem and have the exhaust checked. If exhaust cant escape out of your tail pipe then you cant accelerate quickly or at all.

Engine running really rough...whine sound when it isn't.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug, plug wire, coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.
