How do you change the rear light bulbs 1988 2 door hatchback tercel

Remove lens cover, bulb, replace bulb , len cover.

Make sure the oil level is good , and let me know .

Probably best to go to a Toyota car wrecking yard and see what they have.It would have to be the same model engine,and it is a lot to change due to having a computer and associated sensors that would need fitting also.
The Tercel came out with a couple of carbs models.One looked light a bell on its side(copy of a SU type carb),and gave a lot of grief.You can source the conventional type carb and fit as a replacement.

yes you have to get doors opened the screws are behind the doors

open the rear hatch and pull carpet away from the lens you want out,you will see four plastic thumb nuts,remove them and pull lens assembly out and replace your bulb

find a way to get to the switch in the rear hatch and try diconnecting the switch.

1999 Tercel rear light bulb replacement. Snap off 2 black caps to pull back carpet. Remove 2 screws on outside of trunk at the edge of trunk lid. The light fixture will loosen up. Sqeeze the tongs on the square white plastic plug on the inside and push plug through hole. You may have to give the light fixture a tug. Turn bulb holder and pull it out. Pull out bulb and put in new one.

I never had a Toyota but if you can change the bulb you should be able to check for voltage. Check voltage at bulb connection and work back from there to find were voltage is lost. If voltage goes into the third light but no voltage at socket it gives you some info on where to look. I had one which had a circuit board which the light plugged into. I had to change the board.
