Car acts like its not getting fuel car cranks but doesnt start drove on freeway with no warning the car just quit what would be the cause?
On your '03 Mitsubishi lancer, if you have tried the other (cheaper) possible culprits, to no avail, you are pretty much left with replacing the fuel pump. On this model it is actually easier than you may think. There is an access point to the fuel pump under the rear seat on the driver side. Easy now, before getting gung-ho and just unhooking wiring harnesses and hoses, remember these lines are under pressure. Prior to locating the access port, turn your ignition to the on position and then proceed to locate the fuel pump relay. Remove the relay and either 1. Crank car and let it run until it cuts off or 2. Disconnect the fuel line under the hood to release the pressure in the line. Either way is sufficient but I prefer the "let-r-die" method myself. No proceed to removing the housing mount bolts, wiring harnesses and hoses. Instillation is the reverse of the removal. Once everything is secure and replaced(pump relay) turn the key to the on position and back about 4 or 5 times before cranking. Should purr like a kitten!
IM also adding the pump diagram as reference if any uncertainties arise. Hope this helps someone with their fuel issue!
ADIOS!!
Sounds like the fuel pump may be intermittant...which unfortunately is located inside the fuel tank...there is a service port on the engine that allows you to test the pressure of the pump...it is located on the fuel rail that feeds the fuel injectors...this would be a good place to start....other possible problems with the fuel system are the fuel pressure regulator, fuel injectors, tps sensor, and possible but unlikely the PCM(computer)...A way to test the pump without tools would be to bang on the fuel tank and see if the problem ceases..if the pump starts working, then it is intermittant and I would suggest replacing as it may fail again...and quite possibly, when youre in a bad place or area
