Hi, your EVAP system purge solenoid valve has shorted out. If you have the 3.8 liter engine, it should be near the coil pack as shown below. You can get a purge valve for about $25, and it's simple to replace. Just remove the connector and the 2 vacuum hoses, then push in the middle locking tab of the clip that's holding the solenoid on to the bracket. Swap it out and hopefully your engine light will extinguish within a day or so. Please let me know if you have more questions and thanks for using FixYa.

What is the code po442 and po445 mean on the car
P0442 code means that the control module has detected a small leak in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP). The loose fuel tank filler cap is the most common cause that triggers the P0442 code.

Code P0445 indicates that there is improper purge flow in the EVAP system caused by a shorted purge valve.

Make sure Fuel tank cap is tightened well, then have it tested at Autozone, etc... If ok, then go back to inspection station.

Need my Liberty to pass smog I recently had codes po445 and po442, will this be a problem for passing smog if check engine light isn't on? Not sure if problem was resolved with new gas cap.
if your check engine light isn't on, they will still hook up a diagnostic code tester to your vehicle to see if the computer has picked up any problems, if the computer has picked up a problem, and you fixed the problem, then you can have the code removed from the system, with a diagnostic code tester.

PO442 is an Evaporation Emission leak. It's probably a loose gas cap. The fix would be $96.00 at our dealership, since your truck is out of warranty. You may be able to get it fixed cheaper, but you'll be charged a diagnostic fee.
