PCV is an acronym for positive crankcase ventilation. The PCV Valve is a very common replacement item on many engines today. It's called the PCV valve for short but it stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. When your engine spins it many times collects pressure in the crankcase area, and it has to escape to relieve pressure on the motors bearings and seals. The PCV valve and PCV system is typically located near the intake manifold, and many times comes right off of the valve cover. It is very simple to replace the PCV valve, and you can do so by simply unscrewing it, and screwing in the new valve. We recommend using a little bit of teflon tape or paste to make sure you do not get any oil leaks. Example (see picture below): 2,4 ltr. Audi V6 engine (BDV, AMM) It's not difficult to replace PCV valve!

open hood
touch valve cover. with finger,
now see 2 hoses. on VC. about 1inch OD.
one is PCV fresh air.
and one is PCV valve hose. that hose. the one with the PCV check valve device on the end.
PCV VALVE LOCATED IN THE FRONT VALVE COVER.JUST PULL PCV VALVE OUT VALVE COVER. THEN YOU PULL PCV OUT OF THE END OF HOSE THEN INSTALL THE NEW ONE. FOR THE 3.8 ENGINE REMOVE THE TOP FUEL INJECTOR COVER.DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM MAP SENSOR AND UNCLIP THE MAP SENSOR FROM THE PCV VALVE ACCESS COVER AND ROTATE IT COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO REMOVE IT.TO REPLACE THE VALVE PULL THE PCV AND O RING ASSEMBLY FROM THE INTAKE MANIFOLD NOTING ITS INSTALLED POSITION AND DIRECTION. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU BUY NEW PCV VALVE TAKE OLD PCV VALVE WITH YOU SO YOU WILL GET THE RIGHT ONE.THAT WILL SAVE YOU TIME AND FUEL.
Not sure on your engine so heres both types. :-) Hope it helps. Cobra

Removal and Installation
Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve tube quick-connect
from the PCV valve.
CAUTION: A new
PCV valve must be installed if removed from the cam cover. Damage will occur to
the locking mechanism on the PCV valve. Remove the PCV valve.

you pcv valve should be located on the top or around the intake on top of the engine. It is covered by a little pcv valve rubber hose...it is easy to identify because it is similar to a radiator hose but a lot smaller...no where near the size of a radiator hose...but when located, the pcv valve just pulls out and to check for it being bad, shake it and it should sound like something loose inside the pcv valve (thats a good pcv valve) but what they look like, they should be a silver looking color with a small little neck on it
