I have a 2003 Jaguar X Type 2.5L automatic. One of the options is Auto Leveling Headlights and HID headlamps. My problem is it seem the auto level is not working properly. They do cycle when I turn them on but the left lamp is a tad higher then the right. I went to adjust the right and could not figure out when adjuster to use or which way to turn it. My previous car was a Mercedes and it headlights had a small level and when the bubble was in the middle you headlights were proper. They also told U in the owners manual which way to turn for up and down. Jaguar offers no such assistance. Also in the manual it say"HID bulbs are not replaceable, see for Jaguar dealer." Yet every auto parts store offers them for sale. What is up with this I have D2S 35w HID's

1. Park your car on a level surface, facing a flat wall or garage door. Make sure the car is at a normal operating temperature and that the headlights are turned on.
2. Open the hood and locate the headlamp adjustment screws. These are usually located at the back of the headlamp assembly, near the firewall. There should be one screw that adjusts the vertical aim and another that adjusts the horizontal aim.
3. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to adjust the screws. Turning the vertical screw clockwise will lower the beam, while turning it counterclockwise will raise the beam. Turning the horizontal screw clockwise will move the beam to the right, while turning it counterclockwise will move the beam to the left.
4. Adjust the headlamps one at a time. Cover one of the headlamps with a thick cloth or cardboard to prevent any stray light from affecting your vision while you adjust the other headlamp.
5. Aim the headlamps so that the center of the beam is at the same height as the center of the headlamp lens. The horizontal aim should be straight ahead, with no visible lean to either side.
6. Test the headlamps on a dark road to make sure they are properly aimed. If you notice any unevenness or misalignment, make further adjustments as necessary.
7. Close the hood and enjoy your properly adjusted headlamps.

its called the ballast module that is at fault, it generates the very high voltage to fire the hid bulb or burner as it is called, may be part of the headlamp unit, check with your jag dealer. not cheap i dont think

Well, we seem to have a real dilema here. I just searched the service manual for your 2005 RX330 and I cannot find any reference to a ballast for the HID headlamp bulbs. According to the wiring diagram, they are wired to the Headlamp Control Relays in Junction Block #2. (Right-hand side of the engine compartment) These relays are "Solid State", so my guess is that the balast for the HID may be built in to them. These are controlled by the Body Control Module. I would recommend scanning the body control module for fault codes before doing anything else. The first step in the diagnostic chart for the headlamp system is to perform a diagnostic systems check. There is a symptom chart to follow if there are no codes present, but if there are codes in the system, you could be shooting yourself in the foot trying to follow the symptom chart without first correcting any fault codes. This is not your fathers headlamp system - it is equipped with tracking control and automatic headlamp leveling...VERY sophisticated. Also lots of stuff that can break...this is what I call JOB-SECURITY- - LOL!

do you have auto leveling on your headlights? If you do when you turn them on they could look like they are blinking, as the cycle up and down very quickly. My Jaguar has this feature and I once thought they were blinking also. If not the first thing to do is to remove the cover over the bulb and make sure the connections are firm and in place.Other then that and from your vague description this is all I think it could be.

If I am understanding your post, I believe you do have a levelling
system and it should be near your light switch on the dash. It is
the type of switch that you depress first, it then springs out and
you turn the small knob (just like your instrument panel lights
adjuster next to it.) What you do not have perhaps, if your car is
not fitted with HIDs (high intensity headlamps), is the automatic
levelling system which is a legal requirement when HIDs are fitted
due to the high power of the lights....

if you don't have a self-levelling system then you'll have a manual
system, operated by a knob under the light switch so that you can
adjust to compensate for a heavy load in the rear of the car.

ther is a level sensor on the rear suspension the link rod may have come disconnected or the sensor has gone faulty

hid lights are brighter and you do not have a headlamp level adjuster below the headlamp switch  D
