It means that cylinder #5 isn't firing some or all the time. The most common cause for that on the motors is faulty a igntion coil. Some of them are hard to access. You are lucky as #5 cylinder is the front one on the driver's side of the motor. Replacement coils are available at autoparts stores, price dosen't matter on these, buy the least expensive.

A P0305 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #5.

Symptoms may include:
* the engine may be harder to start
* the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0305 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plug or wire
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Running out of fuel
* Poor compression
* Defective computer

About the possible solutions:
* If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
* If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

Ck engine light is on and miss fire #5

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

2004 f150 5.7 4x4. Engine started missing, noticed check engine light came on. Could tell when engine was going to act up engine light would start flashing. Went to advance to have code ran, i was told...

Yeah so bank 2 is the drivers side and 5678 are on that side you posted this in ford so it's either a 5.8 Windsor motor or a 5.4 and the camshaft sensor is on the timing cover under the valve cover about 2 inches or so go to rockauto.Com and look up your vehicle and the parts described here then you can see it before you buy it

I have a 2005 F150, that has been running a little rough and the check engine light came on. Checked the code and it read 0305. I'm not sure what I should do next.

trouble code 0305 is for cylinder misfire. misfire code for cylinder #5 which is what a P0305 code represents. There will have leaking valve cover gaskets allowing oil to contact the boots of the ignition wires and short the high voltage to ground causing the misfire.in this case check whether plug wires, sparkplugs and valve cover gaskets are in good shape .this will help you to determine the cause of your check engine light on. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

What does it mean when my 2002 f150 service light

a Flashing CEL light usually means a mis fire, if the flashing s in groups ( ie of 5 ) it is indicating the cylinder number. If you have a straight series of flashes, it is a general misfire code ( P0300 ).

Go to an autozone and have the codes pulled, get the actual code number, not what the guy thinks should be replaced, and post a comment back to your problem.
