Could be. Does it sound kind of harsh. Should be a soft whirl sound. Could be the security system. Does the security light stay on? Do you hear the pump running after it starts? You can rent fuel pressure testers from auto parts stores.
Sorry to the bearer of bad news but i have a funny feeling your ECU unit has failed ,where is it located on this vehicle anywhere near the engine where it can get hot?
pump is in the fuel tank and is part of the sending unit assembly(replaceable seperately). i was told this by a nissan dealer when my nissan was getting the sending unit recall done about a month ago. i asked them if since the sending unit was going to be new if it included a new pump, they said no, its replaceable seperately but it goes in the sending unit assembly.
your tach is run by the engine computer, possible cause. also by the crankshaft position sensor, most likely cause, I would start there. some sensors will run within perimeters and be bad enough to cause a lot of problems
Get a noid light hooked up to the injector (Injectors) This will tell you if the injectors are getting the signal from the computer to let fuel out.
You can have a good fuel pump, and still no fuel if this signal isn't good.
On some vehicles, this signal starts from the distributor. (Module or hall effect)
pull the sending unit with pump assembly from the tank. Remove the fuel pump with bracket while lifting the pawl of the pump bracket upward. remove hose clamp and electrical connections. Replace as removed should have tank strainer already installed. If it is fuel injected it will get enough fuel to start but not stay running. I had the same problem with my S10. Turns out the hose that went on to the end of the fuel pump was roted. pull the sending unit and check the hose connections to the pump and the sending unit. If problem presists replace filter first the pump.
#1...........Your fuel pump relay is faulty.....fastest way to check this is to go to the junction box under the hood and switch the fuel pump relay with another relay(I usually use the a/c clutch relay) try and start the vehicle. if it starts it's the relay. if it doesn't then.........
#2 ..........Broken fuel pump....check this by removing the hose from the air filter box a spraying a little amout of starting fluid in it and replace the hose. try and start the vehicle if it fires you know it is the fuel pump.
The problem with your truck is not the fuel pump. Its the sending unit for the pump, which is on top of the fuel tank and feeds POWER to the fuel pump. Nissan has a campaign for it, because those units corrode internaly inside of the connector, that sends power to the fuel pump to power it up. Have the dealer run DCS check , to see if you have a open campaign for the sending unit. If you do, it will be free of charge and in some cases the whole fuel tank needs to be replaced also. However, that may not be your problem. I have seen ECM/computer getting flooded by the heater box. There is a drain tube, that drains your heater box, that tube gets clogged up by debriss/stuff and that's when water has no place to go and it leaks on top of you ECM/computer and fries it. Have you noticed any wetness on pass. side floor?? Right by the fire wall. Check it and make sure that its dry/carpet area at the top of the carpet behind the glove box. If its wet, that's not good. Let me know what you have found and will take it from there. Is the "Check engine light on" by chance?? Let me know.
