My 05 Trailblazer has what I would call a surging problem. It will intermittently surge at speeds between 45 - 65 mph and 1,500 to 2,500 RPM. Took it in to the shop for repair; camshaft position sensor and both O2 sensors were replaced but the problem is still there. I have noticed that when the surge occurs the RPM will drop by about 300 for a second or two then jump back up. Is this an engine problem or transmission problem?

Replace TPS (throttle positioning sensor) they're a rheostat that eventually burns a wear spot causing that surge.

Thanks for the input. You'r the third person to recommend that I replace the TPS. I'll give a try.

I know the symptom well, just replaced one on my Land Rover and it did EXACTLY the same as you described.

RPM surges about 500; worsened progressively. After a 1 hour wait, problem appeared to disappear.

Could also be EGR Valve or THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR or FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.

1999 Silverado has an engine surge of 200-500 RPM at 45 to 55 MPH

sounds a little like a cruise control problem.
they used to have a centering adjustment that kept the speed within a range. If the range somehow shifted to the high end this would cause your surge. it would be a screwdriver slot on the outside of the case.cw increase ccw decrease. yours is set too high or cw.
I work the screw back and forth several times in case dirt entered the cruise module.

ok a couple of things to try one is loosen the throttle cable so it has a little play in it and then you can check for vacume leaks using carb cleaner if rpms change you have a leak

Speedometer surging. actual speed 40 mph,

Its a loose connection on the speedo cable. its a b*tch to get to. I had the same problem on my truck, it would fluctuate in 5th gear on the highway. i spent the money and had a professional do it.
