The coolant must be changed at 100,000 miles, and then every 50,000 miles thereafter. Also, the coolant needed is quite specific for the Prius. As mentioned before, the coolant cools the engine, but ALSO cools the electronics in the inverter (the is the shiny silver box in the engine compartment in front of the driver). Also, there is a coolant storage bottle inside the left front fender that stores warm coolant to aid in starting the car. This being said, changing the coolant is best left to Toyota technicians that have expertise with replacing the coolant. If the inverter is not cooled properly, the unit will overheat and fail. The inverter is very, very expensive. Trust your Toyota technician with this job. The money that you may save is not worth the costs that you could incur if you do not bleed all of the air from the system. Also, make SURE that when you change the oil, use the EXACT weight oil that the car calls for. Ignoring the exact weight of oil will also cause you problems with how it drives.

Very important that you dont touch your coolant it must be done by the dealer unless you have a toyota computer tool. the coolant is a special type it not only cools you gas motor but it also cools your electric motor. and you have to use a computer scanner to turn on the water pump and get the air out before you start up your car or you will have a nice paper weight. as far as the time go with your dealers recommendation

How do i change the coolent on s type jaguar

The easiest and cheapest way is to take this to a Rapid Oil change type of place. They will hook it up, flush and replace the entire system. Doing this yourself is not hard but you will only save about 10 dollars.

My car is overheating. What are the causes of this problem

Falty Thermostat, Not enough coolent in vehicle, Plugged radiator. Has the coolent been flushed? They use Dexcool in the gm vehicles and it is known to gum up the system if proper flushing intervals have not been followed. Long life coolent lasts for 5yrs but should be changed every 3yrs.

Need to change coolent in radiater ,does this take a special kind of coolent and do i need to use a special type of radiater flush. Also is there a drain on the radiater?

You don't need to use a special kind of radiator flush, but the coolant is called DEX COOL. It's made by prestone specifically for GM engines, you can get it at walmart for like 5 bucks.
