My 1996 v6 chevy truck engine runs good at idle but in drive it has poor acceleration. In idle I can maintain 2500 RPM but in drive it does go to 2500 but the truck acts like it has resistance. I was told it could be a pluged catylatic converter. When on the HWY I notice a loss of power when I climb a mild hill. Is it a transmission problem?

Sounds like a catalytic converter - runs good but lacks power - the back pressure keeps the engine from being able to accelerate under load - good luck :O)

2002 chevy tracker with 2000 RPM ?

you forgot to say hot or cold engine so is 2 answers.
they had 3 engines that year (the nn = liters)
G16, 16valve i4
j20 dohc i4
H27 v6
nobody on earth can guess the engine, and is an engine question
2000 is 100^% normal on any cold engine, 1500 to 2500 range cold
based on coolant temps -30f to 180f.
the colder it is at starter the faster the idle, and is AIC controlled
when hot the engine ecu goes to full hot (normal ) engine rpm controls using the ISC.
the exact parts are not the same on the 3 engine ever.
next time tell engine and if RPM is cold engine or hot.

btw I owned all 3 cars before, so have full documentation on them.
and restored them too. and can field most questions.

1996 T100 V6 CHANGE tps, 3 coils ,spark plg, wires, check fuel pressure ,itwill not rev above 3000 rpm??

may be a vacuum hose is rotted out that leads to a device only activated over that limit; or a vacuum device that just fails to maintain good vacuum when it hits that level of demand.

Chevy C1500, 5.0 V8--Engine will start but will not idle or run at speed unless the throttle is manipulated. Engine runs rough and has very poor acceleration when trying to increase speed.Engine does not...

If it has a Mass Airflow sensor unplug it and see how it runs. If it smoothes out that is the problem. I would also check for vacuum leaks the base of the throttle body is suspect, usually bad gasket

Check your catalytic converter, good chance that it has broken apart and is blocking exhaust flow. Common Chevy 4.3L Issue.
