I have a 1997 Buick Riviera and the sunroof has opened up and I need to manually close it. As the breaker had to be pulled as it is to hot. we have tried to add power directly to sunroof controls to close it that way. My second problem is the windows on both doors and the drivers seat warmer and the mirrior controls will not work. Now I know that the windows are on the same breaker as the sunroof and with the braker over heating and bieng pulled I assume that this issue is due to a short in the lines. But why would all of the other electronic controls also stop working?

I have checked the fuse in the back I can not complete the other items on you lest due to lack of a garage and below zero weather. Do you know of any way to manually close the sunroof. It is not in the full slide open position. It is the back lift up position. Can you help me with this?

  1. Check for blown fuse. Under back seat, right side fuse block.
  2. Check and replace the motor.
  3. Check and replace the track mechanism.
  4. Check and replace the drive rods.

To manually close the sunroof, you must gain access to the drive rod and crank it in the direction that closes the sunroof. Sometimes this requires an Allen wrench.

If the sunroof has a plastic panel, remove that first. You should be able to access it underneath the panel.

In a 1999 buick regal ls, do I have to remove the headliner to replace the sunroof switch?

No you don't need to remove the head liner to replace the switch . Here are the factory service repair manual directions .
Grasp the switch on the left and right sides. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to disengage the clips which are located at the front and rear of the switch. Hold the flat-bladed tool parallel to the roof and push straight in. Rotate the switch toward the left side to disengage it from the mounting bracket and pull down. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Remove the switch from the vehicle. This switch is supplied 5 volts from the sunroof module on the brown an orange wires ,the dark blue wire is grounded inside the sunroof module . The switch is just a low voltage input to the sunroof control module , The control module opens or closes the sunroof by the inputs from the switch . The odds the switch being bad are astronomical , more then likely the motor or the sunroof module are bad.
Your best bet would be to have a qualified repair shop diagnose the problem for you ! Do your power windows work ? Sun roof is powered by a circuit breaker an the windows are powered by the same circuit breaker .

Sunroof stuck open...electronic switch clicks when pushed to open position...but nothing when trying to close...can this be manually closed or is there a breaker or something that can be reset?

The roof slides along a channel actuated by a coiled cord.

Both of the cords pass along a gear attached to the Sunroof motor which pulles the cord tooth by tooth.

There are two plastic wedges that drop into the plastic slides on the sunroof (the plastic slides are behind the more forward metal slides.)

The plastic slides control the tilt of the roof when moved independantly. The plastic wedges join them.

If the roof moves too far back, it is possible for the wedges to stick up and jam the roof open.

This should never happen, but could if the two micro switches on the sunroof motor assy fail to provide feedback to the controller indicating the roofs position.

Access to the Sunroof motor requires you to drop the headliner.

To drop the headliner, the plastic pillar shrouds need to be removed front and back, the seatbelt bolts in the middle secion need to be removed, the oh-**** handle, the front visors, and cabin lights.

3 bolts hold the motor up.

With the motor down you can try* to manually actuate the cords using a flat screwdriver, but move the left and right side evenly a tooth at a time.

Of course of the plastic wedges are jammed, it's not going to budge.

Hope the info is helpful. good luck!

How do you program the garage door opener on a 1997 buick riviera. Bought it used, no owners manual.

You'll need to open the transmitter in the car and match the frequency to the garage door reciever, assuming you have the fob for the garage door, opening this will reveal a set of tiny switches. This combination is the frequency you need. Open the transmitter in the car, and place all of it's switches in the same position as in the fob. If this doesnt work, then the governing frequency isn't the same and there's not much you can do. Hope this helps!

Is there a way to manualy close tight the sunroof on a 1997 Buick P/A Ultra, I looked under the roof liner but could not see any kind of crank. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unless you can see a plastic plug somewhere in the plastic trim around the sunroof, I don't think there is a way to manually close this one... if it still has power, you could try assisting it with your hand.
