When we turn the ignition off, the lights come headlights come on in our 2002 toyota solara. What might be the problem?

Usually caused by the headlight switch.

Hi,just food for thought,when you switched the lights on did you check if there is aney power to the lights with ignition on,I thought that then atleast you would know that its not before the lights if there is power there.all the best,hope you get it sorted out.

If you turn car off and remove key from ignition, th? headlights will stay on until you open the driver side door, its part of an auto on headlight system. you can leave your selector light switch on the headlight position or on the daylight lamp relay (DRL) position. and open the driver side door and the lights will go out and not stay on. so it saves running your battery down. That feature is only on SLE trim line on the Solara.

Fuse/relay under hood..possible that both lights went out..make sure filaments I'm bulb are not blown

Hi John , could'nt find the schematic you require online so i can only suggest getting a workshop manual or visiting this link to a solara forum for info , advice etc

THE AUTOMATIC LIGHT SENSOR COULD BE FAULTY.

Check the ground at the right fender for the light White/Black wire. Is this when its in AUTO MODE or Headlights ON mode???

check to see if a fuse is blown under the hood as well as under the dash
