Re: How do you replace a water pump on a dodge intrepid...
The intake where the thermostat goes is in the driver side of the motor behind the altenator. I had to remove the front clip of the car and the altenator to get to it. It is quite a job.

replace the cap--is the radiator damaged? No reason to replace the water pump. Boiling is caused by leak, faulty thermostat, clogged radiator, or head gasket.
a timing belt. the water pump uses it to turn it and you got to take it off to change the pump anyway so you might as well get a new one.also the hydralic timing belt tensioner should be replaced at the same time just to be sure.you will need anti freeze of course as well
1st the belt must ALWAYS be replaced when the water pump is done or anytime the belt is distrubed, here are the only instructions I could find on the belt replacement. http://www.allpar.com/fix/timingbelt35.html
the water pump is timing chain driven and to replace it requires serious disassembly of the engine. it is a 13 + hour job and is not for the casual mechanic
