Asumeing you didn't junp a tooth on your timeing chain witch you could check from the pisition of the rotor in relation to the # 1 spark plug wire on your distubotr cap at top dead center # 1 cylinder at the top of the compression stroke it should line up if thats OK. Then i would say rebuild your carburator its 30 or 40 dollars for the kit and detailed instructions are in clueded in the kit on the disassemble and adjustments and its not hard to do i have an 85 do it every 5 or 6 years makes lots of problems go away much better gas milage pays for it self in a couple of months. You will need a couple cans of cleaner with the little red tubes to spray out the passages but its a two hour project even if it takes four the vehicle will run so much better you won't belive it good luck

Also check your fuel pump and your fuel filters even if there is a problem with them still rebuild the carb if you have never done it then it needs it

Do the simple and easy things first. A mass air flow sensor can cause the problem you describe. Try cleaning it:

Rather than changing parts at random to try and cure a problem .. take your car into a workshop and ask their opinion.

My car spits and spuders what could be the proplem

my wife had the same car with the 3.1L motor.they are notorious for the head gaskets. we checked everything on the car. turned out to be a bad piston. do a compression check on the pistons. also chec the oil and antifreeze make sure oil is not frothy. this would indicate a bad head gasket

Truck was running fine , it started to spuder then died , ichanged the fuel filter & now it wont start

You have to make sure all of the air is bled out of the fuel line. start with top of fuel filter then injector pump. If it still won't run then loosen an injector pipe until it stops spitting air. It is possible that the original reason that it sputtered and stopped could be air getting sucked into the fuel line...hope this helps.

When i put in gas car spits and spudders clears out untill gas agian

Sound to me like you have water in the bottom of your fuel tank. when you fill it the water is mixed with the gas until it settles. put some gas line antifreeze into the fuel tank, may take several bottles. but this should help. if not you will have to have tank taken off and drained.
