Starting last July 2010, my 2004 X-Type 3.0 Jaguar has been experiencing the following: while driving I experience a slight ****, engine lights go on, computor reads gearbox fault, then engine systems failure. Car goes into limp mode. I pull over, turn off engine, wait a couple of minutes and the car starts and drives fine for long periods of time, until recently it has been happening frequently. What can this problem be. I've heard everything from air filter to transmission.

Engine management system has recently started to show orange engine sign followed by gearbox fault intermittedly .car seems to be wavering very slightly in stearing.2001S type v6 auto petrol ,was told...

This could be caused by many things - but don't panic - as the car is driving okay it is probably a spark plug coil as at your mileage you are due a change. The gearbox fault sign can be caused by the engine misfiring and confusing the gearbox controls - happened to me - took lots of investigations to prove it. Best to get your car on a diagnostics rig and see what faults are recorded. good luck - hope this helps.
