Emergency brake When I pull up the emergency brake nothing happens. Big problem???

When you pull the brake have someone look under the car for the cable ,see if its broke if not ,pull the brake all the way,check the cable it should be tight,no slack,if its loose follow the cables to the back brakes youll see the adjusters on the cable,if this helps please vote me a fix ya,it shouldnt cost alot if your having the mechanic do it
