yes your fuel pump can go suddenly w/ no warning. check your fuses in fuse box and fuel pump relay under the hood. look at owners manual to see where electric fuel shut off switch is to make sure that did not trip and needs to be reset. could possibly be plugged fuel filter but likley its the pump.
Absolutely your Ford Taurus uses a fuel pump, with fuel injection the fuel pump is an electric fuel pump capable of higher pressures needed for the injectors, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, sometimes the fuel tank has to be removed from the vehicle to service the pump, and some vehicles that I have worked on have an access panel under the rear seat to open up and access the pump that way. Fuel pump is located inside your fuel tank.Sometimes if you have involved in an accident there is automatic shut off switch that will kill the fuel pump operations and prevent fire durring accident.Chek your manual for fuel pump shut off switch. Sometimes is located in the Trunk or in front of vehicle on driver side under dash on left side panel.
try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

it sounds like a rich mixture problem , possible causes are faulty
coolant temperature sensor, choked air filter . faulty fuel pressure regulator, another possibility is a faulty fuel pump (overheating)
