If only the door ajar light and interior light is not working it is probably the door ajar switch located on the door latch inside the door. sometimes a little WD40 sprayed towards lower side of the latch will work, frees the piston in the switch. if not the switch must be replaced. If also the outside mirror control does not work, the door lock switch also does not work, it is a bad ground to those three systems, the Electric windows have a separate ground wire and still work. You must feed a new black wire from a good ground on the body thru the door accordion tube and connect it to the larger black wire on the plug that goes to the door lock switch. The door lock, the mirror control, the door ajar light, and the interior light problem will be gone.

One of the door latch switches is bad. Usually the drivers, but not always. You will need to replace the switch, the dealer will have a lot in stock.

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles. If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know> Thanks Dan

SOURCE: 2003 Explorer door ajar light stay on when all doors are closed

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.

Interoir lights stay on after truck shut off. 2002 Ford F-150 Super Cab. any hints on what to look foe?

If the interior lamps and the door ajar light stay on after removing the keys and closing the door, this is usually a sign that the door ajar switch is gummed up.

Liberal spraying of WD-40 in the latch and close open the door a few times. It can take up to 5 cycles of this to get the door ajar latch working correctly again.

There is a thread on F150online.com in the electrical forum ( sticky at the top ) that has pictures of where to spray the WD-40 if you are unsure on this.

My cargo and interior lights wil;l not go off on my 2002 F-150 I need to lnow what fuse it is or fuses?????

This is usually caused by the door ajar switch not making contact.
The door switch is part of the door latch on the F-150.

Liberally spray the door latch with WD-40, close and open a few times. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times, and check the interior lights / door ajar indicator on the cluster.

There are pictures of where to spray in a sticky in the Electrical forum on F150online.com if you need them. This is a somewhat common problem, to get dirt and gunk in the door ajar switch, causing the contacts to stay open.

Interior Lights and Door Ajar light stay w/beeping noise.

Try spraying WD-40 into the door latching mechanism (door side). I learned this fix after two battery replacements, but have only had to spray twice in the more than seven years of ownership
