My 2006 Chevy Impala LTZ is stuck in park. Checked the brake lights, they do come on. Took the console apart and pushed in the spring loaded button on the right side with a screw driver to get it in gear. What is causing it to lock in park? What is the solution to fixing this problem?

Probably the shift solinoid is burnt or no power to activate it you should check all fuses this doent run off the brake lights it is a solioid that when activated by pressing the brake pedal releases the lock on the shifter just take a test light ground it and chk the wires leading to solinoid one should have power when you press the brake or it could be oposite that it supplies the ground when pressed

I own a 2006 Chevy Impala. My tail lights are not working but my brake lights and turn signals are working. I found the fuse and checked it and it's good. What should I check next?

it sounds like a parking light wire is not connected. look for wire or check the connection, I don't think that both light bulbs would have the lower wattage wire in the bulbs themselves would be burned out.

2007 chevy impala Shifter stuck in park

Do you have brake lights? The brake switch on the pedal has to work to send a signal to a solenoid at the shifter to release park.

The shift lever is locked in park position...cant even press the button on it.What to do? (2006 Chevy Impala LTZ)

Take a look and see if the brake lights are working, the power to release the shift lock comes from the brake switch when you step on the brake the shifter is unlocked. i had a few of these that needed new brake light switches, first try starting the car and stepping on the brake pedal as hard as you can and then try shifting,if this works replace brak switch, next if that doesnt work check the brake light to see if they work if not or if so check all fuses even under the hood fuse box, hope this helps. here a picture of the shift release soleniod it on the steering column, dissconnect and slide by hand to release shifter until repaired.0b1056c.gif

My gear shift is stuck on my 2008 Impala. Where do we look to unlock it when pressing the brakes does not work?

My 2007 Impala LTZ was stuck in Park. After trying several alternatives, I pressed the traction control button and the shift lever then worked.

Gear shift stuck in park and can't push in the button. 2006 Chevy Impala SS

this is a shot in the dark since could be many things, but check the brake light switch, you have to put on brake to shift from park, had this happen on a ford ranger once, the switch worked under light pressure as far as lights were concerned but required heavy pressure to shift

2006 chevy monte carlo would not shift out of park while running with foot on break as normal on flat terrain. took apart center console after all other effots failed and pushed the button on the riht...

the problem may be in the switch on your brake pedal, may not be sending the power too the release on the upper switch in the center console, start here , and check for power with a volt meter

Shifter stuck in park!

you have to take off the plastic all around the gear shifter. You can wedge a screw driver carefully around the edges and pry the plastic off then there is a screw on the shifter take that off and slide the top off and then take off the rubber until the whole shifter is exposed then you will see in the cavity on the right side a little metal round tab on a spring that you have to push in with a screw driver and it will release the shifter. Good luck

2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .
