My 1998 JETTA 3 CSL HAVE A PROBLEM OF JUST STALL WHILE I'M DRIVING AT ANY SPEED SHOULD I CHANGE GEARS SOMETIMES IT JUST SWITCH OFF AND ONLY LEAVE THE WARNING LIGHTS ON IF I LEAVE THE CLUTCH THEN IT WILL KICK START IT HAPPENS AT ANY GEAR BEING 1,2,3,4 OR 5 WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM HELP?
Before you take the vehicle to any mechanic, check the vacuum line that runs between your brake booster & fuel injection aluminum dome. The computer will choke the vehicle trying to compensate for a leaking vacuum hose... that's about $60 if you do it yourself!
I am "Master Technician" and This is my area of expertise.I perform engine computer diagnostics and all other imaginable electronic problems.15 years of experience,5 years of technical school.Those are my credentials so you know, who you get advice from.Now going back to your car problem.First, check engine and trany fault codes if there are any, write them down and transfer it to me. If there is nothing, then we got intermittent problem which is a B..CH. 1->{try to check "ECM"(engine control module) for water damage,common problem}. 2->{check ignition module,ignition coil for voltage and resistance,could be too low or too high.}. 3->{check crankshaft sensor resistance}. 4->(check fuel pressure}. 5->{check catalytic converter for exhaust flow,if it isn't clogged.}. 6->{check with scanner engine's and trany's "data stream" for any parameters out of spec.}. Last but not least 7->{check your trany's clutch for wear,trany fluid condition & level.}
I can't tell you exactly what's the problem without road test your car and feeling car behavior while stalling. My best bet is (crankshaft sensor) or (trany & clutch).Write me back what you'll find, So I can give you more pro advice. Sincerely JAYREE.
Engine stalling issue at low speeds
This problem
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner from NAPA or
Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake
while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will
try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30
minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and
disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base
idle control

Sounds like a problem with the ignition system, take it to Kragen and have them run a test for trouble codes and get back to me.
