Your Question replaced brake switch now brake

Your Question replaced brake switch now brake pedal sticks? I went to a auto garage a few days ago because all 3 of my rear brake lights on my 2004 Nissan Sentra (automatic) were out. They told me I needed to replace the brake switch so I got the part from the dealership and gave it the mechanic at the auto garage to replace it. The brake lights work now but every since that day my brake pedal will lock while I am driving and it makes it hard to accelerate. I have to pull to side of road and pump brake pedal and adjust my gearshift from park to drive to lossen it before I can drive again. I have taken my car back to the "mechanic" but the problem always clears up before I get there. They claim the brake switch would not cause the pedal to periodically lock up and the fix they did is unrelated! I never had this problem before I let these people touch my car. They will not help or refund my money. Thanks for any suggestions.

You may have an ABS Brake System issue,not related to the switch you had replaced

The brakes lights don't work. can't tell which fuse to replace, manual does not explain well enough

You have a high mount brake light. Press the brake pedal. If it doesn't come on, replace the brake switch at the brake pedal. If it does come on and the tail lights don't, replace the turn signal switch.

My brake pedal went to the floor, brought it in...They told me it was the Master Cylinder. They changed it and put in a brand new master cylinder but it still seems like the brake pedal goes further t

The extra brake travel can be;
1. air still in the brake lines and need bleeding
2. if there are brake drums on the rear they may be out of adjustment
3. if there are warped brake disc or caliper problems that will add to the brake travel

Go to your brake pedal and see if your brake switch is working properly,push it in with hand and see if switch engages and releases when you let up on pedal.It is adjustable.Also check your bulbs to see if the bulb holder is corruded.Check wiring around bulb too.

Yes,the newer cars need a strong battery or funny things happen. You'll need to replace your brake pedal switch or bleed the system properly. don-ohio (:^)

I had no problems with shifting my car into gear, but I went to it a couple days ago and would not move from Park. I tried the override to see if it would move but it still wouldn't work. Any suggestions.

The problem is in the brake switch. You have to have the brake pressed to get it out of park. When this switch goes bad then it doesn't think that the brake is being pressed. You will have to replace the switch. It is located on the top of the brake pedal up under the dash.

About a week ago, having switched on and set off, all the brake warning lights stayed on, that is the ABS, TCS, TCS OFF and Brake System Warning lights. The brakes continued to work OK with no extra travel...

abs=anti-lock brake system/ tcs=traction control system ==sounds like you have a problem with ur abs possible bad sensor or a wiring connection problem when abs shuts down [trouble light] your brakes will work normal but if u stomp or brake hard the brakes will lock up skid and the tcs doesnt affect brakes but if u accelerate hard tires will spin lose traction check the wiring and connections to the sensors sometimes debris hits the wire and loosens the connection if looks ok and light is on have car scanned for the trouble code most auto stores such as auto zone/advanced auto offer this service for free the code will what and where the problem is so repair can be made
