I have a 2001 PT Cruiser with 70,000 miles on it. I started it up this morning and began driving it immediately - and for the first time this year it was in the 30's F outside temperature. When I began driving the car the engine light came on and the car no langer ran smoothly. It seemed to shimmy or vibrate on a large scale. I pulled over and turned the car off. Then started it back up and it ran it for a few more minutes and then the light went out. I got to a gas station and checked the oil and it was down 1 quart. I added the quart of oil and now the car runs fine again. Is the car safe to run or does it need service?

If the car needed a quart of oil i would suggest you check it every month/500 miles,or you may find the next time you may need a new engine.....Chrysler,in Europe, are serviced every 10k/annually.i am not sure re USA.

Doesn't start

It sounds like it has jumped time. What year is the car and how many miles. Timing chains can go bad as early as 70,000 miles

My 2002 pt cruiser lost power steering suddenly

check to see if the serpantine belt is still there. It sounds like like it broke. this belt runs all of the accesories on the vehicle including the water pump. So if this happened it probably starting running hot too

2001 PT Cruiser

Car overheats then engine dies going down hill coasting. When try to start, starter spins as if no gas or fire to the plugs. Can this be a sensor flipped by too much heat or lack of coolant ? If so, how do you reset the sensor ?
