The heat is generated by a heater/small radiator in the dash. That small radiator uses hot coolant from the engine. The temperature is adjusted by varying the amount of hot water flowing thru it with a valve. That valve is commanded by a lever to which a cable coming from the temperature button is fixed - this mechanism no longer works causing the valve to remain shut so you end up with no heat.
You must access the back of the rear console to inspect and replace the failed part: the button, the cable, the lever or the valve itself. Of course you must do that with the engine cold.
