Without being there,i would say that its possibly the clutch friction plate springs that are weak, and as they have some "play"the clunk is when they take up the slack....nothing serious, and as long as its just a noise, leave it until you need to replace clutch assembly....

Clunking noise comming from front

check your lug nuts first. if there tight jack the front of the car off the ground, then wiggle the tire left to right and up and down. if you have any play then your wheel bearings are out. if you dont have play then reach around to where your front wheel drive axle attaches and wiggle it in the same fassion. you should have your answer when you do this to both sides

My 2000 model mazda protege makes a clunk when making sharp turns, accelerating or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear?

Sounds like a bad cv joint. Easy way to check is to raise the front of the vehicle so both front tires are off the ground. Use jack stands under the vehicle and block the rear tires. Start the engine and put the tranny in drive. Let the front wheels rotate while the engine is idling and turn the steering wheel slowly in both directions. Listen for the clunking noise. You may have to speed the engine up a little to make it work.

Possible broken belt in one of your tires. Move the 2 front tires to the rear, see if the problem follows the tires. Or run your hand around the circumference of the tires to feel for a bulge. Other, more expensive problems could be in the suspension. A-arm bushings, or wheel bearings.

When I hit a bump the front end shakes and makes a clunking noise

Could be alot of things like worn out bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, radius arm bushings(which is common) you should have this checked out before it gets worse and cost alot more to fix what could be an easy, inexpensive job.
