It was running fine and then all of a suddun its running rough, it wont shift over and the engine light is blinking.. its a custom 2001 buik century. we need to fix the car so we can get back and forfth to work. please help.

is It causing the car to not start?? if it is there is a module that will help u bypass it.. I had to install one in my buick . had it for 5 years and havnet had an issue. Hope it helps

Check if the starter solenoid is faulty, check the power to the solenoid and if there is no trigger to the unit then the key switch contact can be checked. You can cross a +12 to the solenoid, if it wont work then the unit is faulty. If the solenoid works but does not power the starter motor then the mtor brush or commutator can be worn out. You will then need to remove the starter and overhaul.

You could be encountering computer failure. Needs to be looked at.

Check the coil pack. Same symptoms on mine. It went at 74,000.
You can get the resistance specs from a shop manual. I have been told the plastic engine cover traps heat and makes short life of the coil pack. I removed the top engin cover, cosmetic only after replacing mine. You will probably need spark plugs also they are probably fowled by now. If you have not changed spark plug wires in awhile in would not hurt.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug,plug wire,coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.
