I have 1007 1.4 Dolce 2-Tronic automatic petrol car. Sometimes when it is trying to change to the gear 2, I get the "Auto Gear fault" message and the car turns to neutral. I have to switch off the engine and restart after few minutes. Sometimes it goes back to gear 1 and if I acceleates, it changes to the gear 3. I can then drive it, but still with the auto gear fault warning. I tried to drive manually, but it suddenly changes to auto and gives me the auto gear fault message. Please help me to get this sorted out. ***

WHAT DOES AUTO MEAN

Probably referring to gearboxes
A manual gearbox in a car requires a clutch that has to be disengaged when changing gear. This is done by a pedal operated by the drivers left foot. So a manual car has 3 pedals.
An automatic or auto gearbox does not have a clutch so there is only 2 pedals.
The auto car is started with the gear lever in P for Park and then moved to D for Drive. All gear changes are done automatically

Auto Transmission Fault. Fault Code Showing "Power train Malfunction"

yor car has got the troublesome jatco gearbox. you need to get someone with a code reader to get the fault codes out of the tcm {transmission control module} may be just low fluid level or selector cable jgate problem but more than likely the box has failed and needs replaced/repaired

Desciption of the gear positions on the automatic gear shift

The gearbox normally shifts like this in "D":

1st gear to 2nd gear

2nd gear to 3rd gear

3rd gear to OverDrive

If you have the selector in "2", it will not make the final 2 shifts. "2" is nice for descending very steepo hills slowly, and also is nice to use coming down hills when it is icy/snowy, the engine will slow down in "2", and you will not have to depress the brake pedal.
