Once leaks have been repaired, change the thermostat, engine oil and oil filter. If it is full, you may need to change the coolant due to its age, as well as the thermostat, engine oil and oil filter. The reason for the oil change is due to the thermal breakdown of the oil in overheating conditions. Also inspect the water pump to ensure it is being driven by the belt. You may also have air in the cooling system that is causing all your problems. Generally only happens when the cooling system is improperly filled. Make sure you add the correct mixture of coolant and water. Incorrect ratios will cause you similar problems.Coolant protects the cooling system and the water dissipates the heat.
Start the car and turn the air conditioning on. Allow the
engine to run a few minutes so the air can cool. Check to make sure you
have the proper buttons selected. This simple step may uncover the root
of the problem.

Adjust the air controls on the dashboard to see how they are
working. If the controls move the way they should with the proper
amount of resistance and stopping in the right places but have effect on
the air, then the problem may as simple as a blown fuse. If the
controls are not working at all, then the problem is in the control
panel.

Get to the fuse box in a Ford Explorer by removing the
instrument panel to the left and slightly below the steering wheel.
There is a fuse remover provided in the fuse box. A blown fuse will have
a broken wire in it. In a Ford Explorer, this fuse is red number 10.

Find the control panel by prying off the top instrument
panel around the air conditioning temperature controls. Unscrew four
screws, one in each corner, and remove the temperature control panel.
Unplug four electrical connectors and one vacuum hose to the control
panel.

Listen for the blower motor to be properly working while the
engine is running and the air conditioning controls are turned to high.
Adjust them from low to high to make sure the blower motor noise
increases and decrease accordingly.
I have a 2007 Acura MDX and its take forever for the air to get cold. Once it starts getting cold it work AMAZING, however waiting 20-30 minutes for the air to start is the WORST!
You have an air bubble inside the cooling system. There is a little bleeder valve by either the thermostat or where the hose goes into the motor. It should look like a bleeder valve on the brakes or just a thumb screw. Anyway you need to open that bleeder when the motor is cool while you are adding the antifreeze. Leave it open just until all air bubbles come out and it's straight antifreeze. Then close it and finish filling the resevior. Run the motor about 10 minutes. Let it cool and then recheck fluid level again.
There is a possibility of a condition called "Vapor Lock" in which on hot temperatures, air bubbles form inside the fuel line, and dont allow the fuel to reach the injectors. One the line cools down, the vapor goes away, and car starts uneventfully. Have the fuel lines checked for leaks or abnormalities. The other possibility is that the EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) relay or computer unit is acting up. These units usually start to fail when hot, and work normally after the engine compartment cools down.
your car has two electric cooling fans one is specifically for the added heat load the A/c puts on the system. . This fan isn't turning on...check your fuses and the fan relays
if you have air what i can recomend is to turn the air conditioning on make sure the radiator fans are on and with the a/c compressor still runing set the cold and heat inside the dash board to the hotes and leave the car runing and keep addind 50/50 mix ANTIFREEZE TO THE RADIATOR UNTIL IS FULL you need to keep there until teperature is normal and no more air trap
