Engine wont start. no spark......ignition control module is good any ideas? Fuel pump good, fuses good, alternator good, battery good, spark plugs good.
Car turned off on me as I started going on bridge....slight sputter as
I was accelerating about 1 minute prior.
Re: engine wont start no spark......ignition control
I had a car a couple of years back do this to me, it was the crankshaft sensor. It will not fire at all if it is bad. Luckily the part is really cheap.

Sounds like it could be the ignition module in the distributor. You have a throttle body instead of a carb. The injectors get a ground signal from the engine computer when they are supposed to open. The ignition module takes a signal from the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor and decides when to fire the plugs and also the injectors.
If the injectors and the coil has power, it could be the module or the pickup coil.
Try to determine if it is fuel or ignition related.
Turn key to on, do you hear the fuel pump turn on for a couple of seconds? It should come on briefly to pressurize the lines and fuel rail on the engine. Do you have fuel at the engine under pressure? Easiest and preferred way is to check fuel pressure with a pressure gauge at the test port on the fuel rail. With key on, pressure on mpfi systems should be 40-50 psi.
If there is gas in the fuel rail, test ignition by checking for spark on the end of a plug wire, with the engine cranking over. If you have a blue snapping spark, then ignition is probably good-may want to check more than one plug wire. Hold the metal terminal end of plug wire 1/4 inch from a ground on the engine, the engine block or a bolt or metal bracket. Verify a blue snapping spark, repeatedly, as the engine cranks. An orange spark, intermittent spark, or no spark points to an ignition problem. One thing you haven't changed is the ignition control module. This module, when signaled by the pcm, is what cuts the primary current to the coils for spark to be generated.
If you have both gas and spark, check the fuel injector circuit. Post back if you need help with that. There should be an injector fuse that needs checked. Also a fuse for the fuel pump, if no pump action, besides the fuel pump relay.
Code 12 is a "good" code-it means system normal. Since no codes are stored, check for spark and check for gas-is the fuel pump coming on? You should hear the pump buzz for a couple of seconds when you turn the key to on-it should start and pressurize the lines, then shut off until the engine is cranked-when cranking, pump should be running again. If you don't hear the pump, check if the fuel pump wire at the gas tank connector has power to it when the engine is cranking. If it does and the pump is not working, the pump will need replacing. If no power, check the fuel pump fuse and relay, under the hood. If the fuel pump is working, it may be ignition related-check for spark. You need to see a blue snapping spark to know the ignition system is good. If no spark, suspect the ignition control module or the crank position sensor -or the pickup coil, if no crank sensor. The pickup coil will be in the distributor-if you have one. If no distributor, crank position sensor is behind the crankshaft harmonic balancer. If fuel pump and spark are good, you will need to diagnose the injector circuit. Post back with what you find.
PROBLEM COULD BE FAULTY FUEL PUMP OR IGNITION MODULE.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. IF NO FUEL PRESSURE TO LOW REPLACE FUEL FILTER.STILL LOW FUEL PUMP FAULTY.IF FUEL PUMP DONT RUN CHECK FUSE AND RELAY.IF FUSE RELAY GOOD PUMP BAD.IF FUEL SYSTEM OKAY USE A SPARK TESTER TO CHECK FOR SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS IF NOT CHECK IGNITION MODULE FUSE IF OKAY IGNITION MODULE COULD BE BAD.USE A CODE SCANNER TO CHECK FOR FAULT CODE IN PCM AND IGNITION MODULE.THIS SAVE YOU FROM SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY.
FIRST GET A SPARK TESTER TO SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS.IF NOT CHECK IGNITION MODULE FUSE.IF FUSE GOOD HAVE CAR HOOK UP TO SCANNER LOOK FOR IGNITION MODULE FAULT CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAULT AND PCM FAULT.IF ALL LOOK GOOD SO FAR.CHECK TO SEE IF FUEL PUMP WORKING.CHECK PUMP FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. IF NOT REPLACE FUEL FILTER STILL LOW REPLACE FUEL PUMP.IF FUEL PUMP NOT WORKING AT ALL CHECK FUEL PUMP FUSE AND RELAY.IF BOTH IS GOOD FUEL PUMP AT FAULT.BUT SCAN TO CHECK FOR PCM FAULT CODES IT CONTROL SPARK AND FUEL SYSTEM.MAKE SURE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES IS GOOD. ALSO CHECK FUEL INJECTORS FUSE ALSO.
CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE FIRST IT SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS.IF NOT REPLACE BATTERY HAVE ALTERNATOR CHECKED.IF BATTERY GOOD.HAVE VECHICLE SCAN FOR PCM PROBLEMS - CRANKSHAFT SENSOR PROBLEMS OR CAMSHAFT SENSOR PROBLEMS.IF ALL IS GOOD GET A SPARK TESTER AND FUEL PUMP PRESSURE GAUGE TESTER.IF GETTING NO SPARK PROBLEM COULD BE LOOSE BAT.POWER SUPPLY WIRES AT IGNITION COIL MODULE OR IGNITION MODULE FAULTY.IF FUEL PUMP NOT RUNNING CHECK FUSE ABD RELAY IF BOTH IS GOOD FUEL PUMP FAULTY.
if car wont start.make sure your battery volts are 12.5.if not charge battery.or replace it if dont hold a charge.if battery is good engine wont turn over.make sure battery cables is clean and tight if all good no start .have starter and starter solenoid check.if battery and starter is good.check for fuel .has some one turn ignition to the on position.go to rear of car listen for fuel pump noise.if your hear fuel pump check ignition system for spark.go to auto parts place buy a spark tester.if you get no spark .check .ignition fuses and ignition module.if you hear no fuel pump.replace relay or fuse.if if fuse and relay good replace fuel pump.if every thing good .your car could have crank sensor problem. or your car is in theft deterrant mode.if so have your car towed in and scanned.
