Ecu will keep fault codes in memory.should show on a complete scan
Even if the C/E light went off before u scanned it, it should still have a code in its memory if an electronic problem was involved. have the emissions read, look for a lean condition, ck for over adjusted brakes (too tight)

When was the last time spark plugs and wires where done? That could be a possible cause, also check the timing through the distrubotor cap.

A couple of ways to check and see if the computer is ok first:
check engine light must come onwith they in on position
The fuel pump must run for two (2) seconds with the key ON
There must be a 5 volt reference at sensors like map, TPS
Must communicate with scan tool
The ORANGE wires at the computer are you power input wires one has 12V all the time this is your KEEP ALIVE MEMORY
one is 12 with the Key on you MUAT HAVE VOLTAGE AT BOTH
Check the computers Ground most are out under the hood and are brown wires
Try the GM TAP TEST this is a factory authorized test with the computer connected and you verified all of the above SLAP the computer with the open hand firmly not too hard but firm see if anything changes,
Do not disconnect the battery you will erase all the codes!

no just lower the level or be quick about plugging in the new sensor, that is what I do, u may lose a cup of coolant but much less hassle than draining the radiator.

Any idea what the code is that is setting the light? It may not show as a current code but will be stored in history codes. Also is the light flashing or come on solid?
I have this same problem, High miles transmission Fail. Zero Codes. There is a "Collar" Ring that slides back and fourth and has failed in many Torrent / equinox. I will bet this is what is happening, your car runs fine when you start it and drive normal, someone cuts you off or you slow down fast for some reason nd then when you let off the brake to continue it feels like it's slipping, the rpms go up and the trans kicks in suddenly jolting forward. the car will run that way causing you to have to feather the gas pedal because it will slip at about 27mph, when you feather it it will shift a little smoother, when you park the car it will drive fine until a similar driving situation happens and it will do it again.
I'm told the fix is a transmission out and apart and replace the broken parts, 3500.00 - Mines been doing this from 180 thousand miles and im at 205,000 miles now. im not paying for that fix. I would drive this car across country . It has zero codes. and rides right with this exception.
