The dash lights go into the rear of the instrument panel cluster which means that you have to remove the panel to replace them. I believe you have to first remove the trim from around the cluster [usually it's held in by plastic clips] then there are a few screws that hold the cluster assembly to the dash. Once these are out the cluster can be removed and the bulbs replaced. I always replace all the bulbs since it seems that once one bulb fails the rest start to fail soon afterwards.

When I turn on my headlights the dash board goes black. The dimmer switch is not the issue

The dash lights are connected to the park lights. Check to see if the park lights come on. If no park lights, suspect a fuse or wiring issue. If park lights are ok, try slapping your hand on the dash area above the instrument panel to see if the lights come on/flicker. If there is a change, the instrument cluster assembly/electronics are the most likely cause of this problem

How do you change the dash lights 2000 mercury sable

Kevin, unfortunately this requires removal of the instrument panel. The bulbs are screwed into the circuit board on the back of the instrument panel. This can be a messy job if you've never had one off before.

The dash lights on one side work but not the other on my 1997 ford explorer xlt

There are small replaceable bulbs behind the instrument cluster, they are installed in twist lock sockets usually, you have to pull the instrument panel to change them, #194 is a common dash bulb

Instrument lights not working

I did see where there is a fuse under the hood for the dash lights.
Other than that the dash light rheostat could be bad. In my old model cars the light switch on the dash, you would turn it clockwise to increase illumination of dash lights. The cars I have had since has button which you can push in to lock/unlock and turn clockwise to illuminate the lights. This is my best guess at this time. If someone has done any work under the dash need to make sure nothing is loose or not plugged in.

Dash lights are on the same circuit. They can be replaced. If you have the instrument cluster out might as well change them all. to remove them just twist 90 degrees.

How do i remove an instrument panel to change the

if you cannot reach the light panel from under the dash by laying on yer back with the aid of a flashlight then,.....there are screws underneath the dash itself and this is somewhat moderate as you'll need to find all the screws and remove them to allow the instrument cluster to drop down and tilt forwards to access it that way ...but I would try the first method if it were me.......hope this helps you.

Instrument panel lighting on 1999 suburban

Changing the bulbs can be a difficult task, involving the removal of some of the dash panel and such. Check the fuses as it is doubtful that all the bulbs have gone bad at once.
