Nov 11, 2011 - The licence plate lights are in the same line as your tail light wiring assembly. I assume your ... Previous owner cut wires going to lights for license plate. ... 1996 ford explorer license plate fuse ... 09@1998 ford f150 fuse box.
I have found that the cars with which I have experience use the same fuse for the license plate light as is used for the tail lights. Not sure why or if yours is different. So, if the tail lights work and the license plate light doesn't, then the problem can usually be resolved by confirming that the wire is properly connected, cleaning the contacts and replacing the lamp.
So its a wagon? or I dont know what S/W is. If the license plate light works, the light failure sensor could be bad. It should be in the left rear corner area and have 4 wires. Green, Light Green, Yelow/Green and White/black. You should have power on the Green going into the box, and the Light Green out to the tail lights. If you have power on the Green, but no power on the Light Green, then the box is bad, either replace the box, or you can just connect the Green to the Light Green wire to get tail lights operating.
I'm not to sure what one you did want license plate light or the tag light up high above your back door. I know I am reading license plate so I will say the fuse needs to be replaced. plate lamps need 2 light bulbs and the fuse box is under the steering wheel or under the hood there are 2.
in my book it said that it is a (194 trade number), I woulds change out bulbs and then fuse.
