If this has never been changed since new DON"T DO THIS!!! It seems that if older transmissions are serviced when old they will tend to slip.. It is a way the dealer gets more money from you in more than one way. ASK ANY TECH

The car is a 96 acura tl 2.5 for the transmission fluid question.

Check while idling in park. Smell to see if fluid smells burnt. Replace if it does.

2004 xc 90 will go into all gears but will not move when I hit the gas pedal. it will move when in Neutral. I turned the ignition off and when I started it again it did engage in drive for one second...

The small Asin Warner transmission used on the XC90, S60 and some others like Acura TL, gets hot and breaks down the viscosity of the ATF-3309 fluid. The fluid that cools and lubricates the friction bands has broken down. THE ASIN WARNER transmission creates 2-3 clutching sequences per shift therefore getting hotter than any other tranny.
The fear is that the transmission friction bands are worn and are not engaging correctly.

Volvo doesn't have a fluid interval change.
Folks have been doing 30-50K fluid flush as cheap insurance.

Does the fluid look brown or dark burgundy?
Does it smell burnt?
are there any silvery particles in the fluid?
All signs the trans needs to be rebuilt, Replacing all the soft parts.

Any reputable independent repair shop can do the job for $800-$1200

You could try a transmission flush for $50-$60 for the case of fluid Mobile 1 ATF-3309 is the stuff.

Hope you get the car back on the road.

1996 tl need help bleeding abs system

The preferred method for bleeding ABS brakes is to use a vacuum bleeder. The idea is to flush the air out of the systems by pumping them with fluid. The full details of ABS system can be found here http://www.autopartspoint.com/products/ABS-control-module.html

My Acura 2005 TL has 59,000 miles. My service person says I need to have the transmission drained and flushed, and new fluid. I have heard of problems occuring AFTER this has been done. Do I need to have...

Your service person is spot on. Yes you should have it done. I can attest to your skepticism but I think those horror stories come from some of the independent and/or quick lube places. If it's the dealer doing the work, they guarantee parts & labor for one year. Your service person is looking out for you

What tuneup services should I be getting done on my 1999 Acura TL 3.2? It has 138K miles on it and has not had a tuneup since 75K 4 years ago...

Geez! Honda kept all the mechanics out of work! Well, a MAJOR TUNE UP must be done in ur FiNE & TiME TESTED car! Replacing the BELTS including timing belt/tensioner should be done. Checking brakes and FLUSHiNG brake fluids. Checking the underchasis, bushings, wheel bearing, wheel alignment, tires and shock absorbers. Checking clutch master/slave and toping hydraulics and gear oil in the transmission for manual. Checking electrical and ECU! Change oil, spark plugs, hi-tension wire, fuel filter, and air filter! Check and top up/flush steering pump. Check and flush cooling system! Thats all! hope your car will last another 10 more years! Taah!

I was quoted $275 to replace the rear brakes on my 2005 TSX. Is that a fair price? I have about 88k miles

That is pretty high. If they replaced the pads(using ceramic pads which are top of the line) replacing rotors and rear brake hardware kit, parts should be about $120 so that means $155 for labor when the job would only take about an hour at the most.
