the 4.0 engine starter is under the intake manifold which has to be removed.

Try this:

The starter is located under the intake manifold, if you remove the intake you will see the starter in the center of the engine,

i understand, that you do not wish to use the remote starter.here is the solution, to disable the remote starter.please follow the set of instructions,

• There is a purple wire on the starter that has been sliced for the relay to be inserted.
• This wire, is on the solenoid connection of the starter.
• Trace this wire and eliminate the relay that is spliced by putting the two purple ends back together as one wire again.

no definitely not you probably have a bad rear main oil seal a very common problem on those cars
