Check compression. This car is fuel injected right? Check for fuel at injectors.
Timing belt good not loose (supposed to be changed approx every 60,000 mi.)

A vacuum hose brokegoing into carb. cut some exses off car started but stalled again. got a new vacuum hose on it but now the car turns over but wont start?

Possible vapor lock, try using some starter fluid, spray just a touch in carb. Another thing, is keep gas pedal to floor, and trying to start. Do not pump pedal, just keep to floor as you crank over motor.

Wont start

sounds like you have no spark if it wont run on starting fluid, check the battery terminals, the ircm and the pcm both ground directly from the negative terminal and if its corroded it will kill spark, wiggle them while having someone else try to start it

Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

2000 ford escort want start. starter turns over battery is charged fluids are full ,tried to jump start tried the fuses. made sure all wires are conneced. what now

Go back to the basics. Fuel, air, spark and timing. First off the battery has to be above 12 volts to diagnos properly. If the engine cranks over fast and stays cranking, then the battery should be ok for testing. Need to check for fuel pressure at the injector rail, normally 35 to 50 psi. If no fuel pressure, suspect fuel problem, filter , pump, electrical. Check for plugged air filter or restriction in air intake system. Also recommend a compression test , will tell you condition of the piston rings, valve seats and seal and timing of the camshaft. Last is to check for spark at the spark plug to determine an ignition problem. Once you have narrowed down the problem, it will be easier to fix.
