Jag gearbox wont go in to 5th but other gears seem ok help it is a manual 2003 and done 76000 miles

syncros ..worn
chipped teeth in cogs
worn bearings

two ways out
repair current gearbox or.... fit used gearbox

changing 5th gear on most manual gearboxes can be done without removal of the gearbox ,remove the inner wing and then access is quite easy ,take the rear cover off the back of the gearbox undo a nut or bolt on a stud and then gear selector can be removed and then a circlip at the end of the shaft and of it all comes ,

it would help if i knew if it was a manual or auto version as its not stated

i would say more like a recon gearbox ,or rip it out and fit a manual gearbox ,No parts are available for this gearbox well in europe anyway so its a complete exchange gearbox from dealer cost in excess of 2500 euros so it could be time to trade it in quick for a newer model

sounds like an internal problem, a bearing noise, when you accel it puts a load on that shaft and the bearing its not going to a cheap fix, sorry.

Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

when it pops out of gear and wont stay its possible that teeth on the gear are worn frm grindin or might be broken which cause it to pop out
