hiya all can any1 help ive had a new master cylinder and slave because the car would not go into gear. problem not solved. took the clutch apart foubd out that the pressure plate is pused out with a long steel rod and it pushed out the nipple part in the middle of it. same happend with the new 1 it was only in there for 3 weeks what would cause that to happen again carnt figure it out any ideas guys vw golf t reg mk4 sdi 1.9
yes its the drive gear in the box usually in the trans case itself call your friendly VW dealer to see how long it takes to change to give you an idea how hard it is
Sounds like a stripped reverse gear. And for the second gear probally need a new gear (1st 2nd) and the syncros with a new hub. If too much metal from the gears has already made it's way around in the bearings through the transmission oil you might be looking at a new transmission. The Golf 3 generation had many problems with reverse gears. Sorry to be the one to tell you.
If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.
I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.
