At a guess, either the connection at the battery or starter. Try turning the headlights on , then hit the starter. If the lights go out, battery terminal. Stay on, starter connection. Lovely little car!

check fuel pump, fuel pump fuse, distributor,and ignition coil please. then you will need to check crank position sensor.(to do this you need to find factory service manual)
Sounds like your starter motor is bad, but it could also be just a bad starter relay not allowing current to the starter motor. Have the relay checked first, then the starter.
You have solved your own problem. I have replace many of these units. It is much simpler to carry and extra key than to screw arround with the old lock assembly. Keys and tumblers ware out like everything else. Let me know if I can help[
test the solenoid first by leaving the key on start and putting a screwdriver across the two posts on the solenoid if this doesnt start the car its the starter if it starts its the solenoid
check the wires on the starter motor,there's a small one that sometimes gets dirty and loses contact or may even be off altogether,this supplies the feed to starter to tell it to turn over, or try running a live wire from the battery straight to this small terminal on starter motor body..CAUTION, make sure you are in neutral gear with handbrake applied, turn ignition on so lights on dash are lit up, then a quick touch of this "live" wire should make engine turn over or start,if so the problem is the small wire has no live feed or needs cleaning. hope this helps.
check for a live feed to the low tension wire at the starter when a second person operates the ignition key. if no feed check fuses relays and then back of the ignition assembly. has it got an after market alarm fitted that may have gone faulty and has shut down the starting circuit. if so you need to find the wiring that it has been linked into and rejoin the original wiring back together.
