When I start the car, it just makes a fast clicking noise like the battery is dead and would not turn over. I can stop and try it again and the car starts right up, sometimes. The battery had some major corrosion on the posts, I cleaned them up and was hoping that was the problem. It started right up after hooking battery back a couple of times but did the clicking again and no motor start. One other thing, after I cleaned the battery post and it fired right up, I drove it around a little. when I came to a stop one time the engine just died and I had to restart. when I start it now, the engine cranks but then acts like it is going to die again, but the engine revs up. It idles very low. Any ideas?

Sounds like your alternator to me. The alternator is not charging the battery so when you drive it, the battery is being drained. It can die even while you're driving. I would get the alternator checked and get a new one if necessary

I unplugged my battery and I can hear something ticking fast, when I pull out fuses under the hood (main fuses) noises change..

could be the solenoid on the starter motor clicking, or sometimes there is just enough battery power to put lights on but higher drain items just click on & off trying to cut in, test the battery output voltage should be at least 12v to start, a fully charged battery will be 13.5v, under 12v is no good.

Alternator making noise had it checked out it passed the test got new battery other one was drained now dash lights get bright and dim really fast

The most common thing which fails in alternator and create noise is bearing failure. I think you should check for that once.

Everything is dead

Hi eyansdaddy,
Sounds like a bad connection on the battery , check the earth cable on the battery and the one that earths the engine to the bodywork (at the bottom of the engine) if there worn or frayed it can stop the engine from starting. all the best Scott

08 sentra won't start, fast clicking noise and dash lights flashing

We have no way of guessing to answer the question

If the battery came with the car new in 07 or 08,I would
say the battery is worn out

All you need to do with any vehicle issue ,is test things

If you don't have the knowledge, you should have a repair shop
you have used for decades, not some franchise or chain store

Will not start, was running fine no sign of any issue and than stopped parked 15min engine off and than returned with no battery. My keys made a different noise and the car ignition makes a strange...

Have the battery checked out, it can drain within minutes and it really is gone if you have dead cells that can't recharge. It will make your car click when trying to start or it could turn over slow or not make any sound. Good Luck.

Avalon won't start, fast clicking noises

Sounds like a dead battery issue. If someone can jump start you with battery cables connect red to red post on battery and black to your car frame or other ground. If the car starts easily it indicates a discharged battery. Then you need to determine why the battery is discharged. If you can drive to a local autoparts store they can use a machine to do a battery and charging system diagnosis at the curbside. Autozone, Advance, or Oreilly all do this. If the battery is the original from the car when purchased it is probably time to replace it. If its a new one (2 years or less) the culprit may be the alternator. The clicking noise is a dead give away that its a battery or alternator issue. The clicking by the way is the starter trying to engage and turn motor over to crank it. Its not getting enough power to turn the engine over (a tough task) and is clicking.

I have a 2001 GMC Yukon. It was running fine until two days ago. I went to start it on Saturday and it would only make a clicking noise. I was able to start it with jumper cables. I drove for an hour...

i had the same exact problem with my chevy s-10, but once i replaced the battery it ran fine no problem, u may have fried some circuits and relays while jumping the car, and alot of times that clicking noise is your relay burning out, did your car start doing weird things too? like ejecting cd's, flashing lights really fast and weird noises?
