Leaving a parked spot I noticed some red fluid under the middle front of the car. Someone it was transmission fluid. Also noticed that there was dried fluid same position in the garage where I park the car. I bought Automatic transmission fluid at the store, but I can not find where to fill. The manual does not say anything about Transmission fluid only transmission-axle refill spot. PLEASE HELP

The red fluid is probably transmission fluid. Pick some up on your finger smell it and if possible compare it to known transmission fluid. You invariably have a leak. If you want to find the leak try this.

Locate a large piece of cardboard and place this under your cars engine compartment just after you garage it tonight. The cardboard will tell all on the leak location.

As far as adding trans fluid . . . you only need to ad fluid if it is low. The transmission is often refered to as a transaxle. Also transmission fluid is most commonly added via the transmission fluid dip stick hole via funnel. Be Careful not to over fill the transmission.

Good Luck

I have a 2006 H3 and I just noticed red fluid leaking from the front end yesterday but today there is no leak. I did hear a strange hissing or whistling like sound when I accelerated. Is this somethin

Most likely one of the transmission cooling lines which go from the transmission to the side of one or the radiator expansion tanks has rusted through. It is making that noise because you are driving it with no transmission fluid in it. If you continue to drive it you will break the trasmission.

I have a 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 that started having front end popping/clicking yesterday. Tonight went to back into my parking spot, pulled forward to adjust and it did not move? I can only pull it forward...

Not CV. Red means transmission fluid. On front frame probably means you have a transmission cooler which is a smaller separate radiator that keeps the transmission fluid cool. That's probably where the leak is or the line leading to it. Check your transmission fluid (it has a dipstick) and make sure it shows at the proper level on that dipstick. Add transmission fluid by pouring into same tube dipstick is in. Drive to nearest shop and repair leak.

Bought a used 2006 Toyota Corolla a few months back. Car has been working great until I noticed what I feel is a slight transmission slip. I checked what I think is the transmission fluid and it appears...

The transmission filler is located towards the driver side front of the transmission. Look for a tube with a red " T " on top of the tube. Check the fluid with the engine running, in park, at normal operating temperature. If you need fluid, add the type of fluid printed on the dipstick. Add the fluid thru the dipstick tube. Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

My car hesitates and roars by jerking into gear while accelerating and decelerating. What would be some reasons that this is happening?

The tranny fluid may be low. Check it when hot,car idling & in park. The tranny bands may need adjustment & check all vacuum lines for leaks. Good luck!

Where is the spot for the transmission fluid? my car is real jerky when driving, trouble shifting. i think it needs fluid but don't know where to put it.

Check level on dipstick shown below (bottom middle of picture) with engine running and transmission in park. If low, use a funnel to add fluid down the dipstick tube. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Transmission jerks while maintaining about 40 going down the road

Do you have an automatic transmission? Do you also notice a delay when shifting from Park to Reverse or Drive?

If so, check the fluid. Low or dirty fluid can cause the transmission to slip. Eventually, low or dirty fluid will damage the transmission.

If the fluid level is low, you may have a leak. Check the area where you park to see if there are any oil spots.

If the transmission hasn't been serviced recently, you may want to drain the old fluid out and replace the filter, instead of just topping off the fluid.

It's also possible that you have a problem with your torque converter. But start by checking the fluid and see if that fixes your problem.

My 1984 chev s10 blazer 4x4 2.8ltr is going thru up to 2-3 quarts of transmission fluid a day. I'm a single mom with little resources please tell me where to look for possible leaks

First, take a look underneath with the engine running (be careful as the exhaust pipe is very hot, and, don't reach up where the fan is). A leak that severe is usually a cooling line (there are two that go from the trans up to the radiator) or from the converter seal (inside the bellhousing where the trans meets the back of the engine) The first isn't too expensive to repair, the second means trans removal and costs a lot.
Also check the transmission itself as the pan gasket or the side linkage seal can also leak.
Once you find the leak, you can decide what to do about it. A leak that large should not be hard to locate. If you see a lot of smoke at the tailpipe, the other way you can loose that much fluid is if the vacuum control on the side of the transmission is bad. then, you won't see anything on the ground but will be burning it in the engine. Only other place you can loose fluid is into the radiator in which case you will need to replace the radiator.
In any case, you will destroy your transmission if you continue to drive it leaking that badly.
I'm hoping that the leak will be in one of the lines.
Good luck!!

There are spots of transmission fluid under the car when it is parked for any length of time. I was told that the differential had to be replaced. My car is a 2000 Dodge Caravan.

The cause could be transmission leaks from any number of sources but it should be investigated. Check the transmission fluid level after driving it awhile to warm it up. The fluid should be red, and within the guide marks on the dipstick. If it is dark, it is probably time for a flush. But you still need to address the basic problem which could be a leaky pan gasket, solenoid pack, dipstick filler tube, etc.

To find out which it is you will need to go under the vehicle with a flashlight and check for fluid "tracks" coming off the transmission.
