We have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee Limited edition and I can't get the 10 disk cd changer to work - says ''err'' . I have loaded it with store cds, burnt cds (tried putting them both label side up & label down) and wont play any of the disks. I have tried a automotive cd cleaner as well (it says ''err'' to). Any suggestions? There was no manual with the jeep when we bought it so I am wondering if I am doing something wrong.
The in-trunk units have a tendancy to go bad. you can take the cover plastic interior cover off to access the CD changer, un bolt the changer, and visualy inspect the two rollers for debris, or missing /broken gears that move the rollers to take the CD from the CD cartrage to the player. if that looks fine, chances are that the laser went bad (common in rear mount units) and you can order a new one from Jeep, or you can remove it and update the in-dash head to an aftermarket of your choice (& yes you steering wheel controls will still work). you could also fit a more modern MP3 unit where the Changer was.
Testimonial: "thank you so much!I will see if that is the problem and if so, off to the store I go.I actually wasn't to keen on the cd changer being in the back."
I just repaired the cd changer on my cherokee 2002. It was real simple.
1. Remove the plastic housing 4 phillip head screw.
2. Remove 6 philip head screw that hild the changer in place.
3. Remove from the bracket and disconnect the plug.
4 On a work bench remove al the small screws om the unit and remove the upper and lower covers. to espose the small motor that spins the disc.
5 using two small magnets one on top and one on the bottom gently tap at the same time, and repeat a few times.
6 while the unit is opened reconect the plug. insert disc in the first slot and activate. It shoul start working just fine. Try this, you may have found the solution, and save some bucks. Good luck
