I just had to replace both bulbs in mine. The overhead bulb "connectors" can overheat and then contact isn't made. Replaced bulbs and problem is fixed.
It may take a few minutes to do. You can remove each fuse, one at a time, to check for a blown fuse. Disconnect the battery to prevent any arcing. This is the easiest way to find the fuse without the hassle of locating a book or reference for location. It won't hurt anything, just disconnect the battery.
Never take for granted that which is easy to check. its very possible both bulbs were left on and did burn out, since you just purchased the vehicle. check them first
