97 nissan sentra with brake and battery light staying lit after changing battery. when it goes into passing gear light goes off then comes back on

You are saying that when you apply the brake pedal the left works the right goes off if so you have a feed back proble. The ground wire to the right side is not getting a good ground, so go the bulb on right follow the black wire to the ground make sure it is grouned this is common if thhis does not correct it recheck your work t is a feed back Good Luck

when this happens, have some one look at your brake lights to see if they are lit while you depress the brake pedal. if the light are not lit then the brake light switch is bad.
if the light are lit then the shift interlock solenoid under the shifter is bad

You could have faulty altenator or short causing the battery to drain. The engine light usually comes on when anything electrical or sensor wise is faulty. Brake light will come on if, low brake fluid, e-brake handle is up.

Have you checked the alternator?

I had the same problem with my 96 Nissan/ infinity g20.
If I turned on the ac the brake & battery lights came on, the AC fan would work but the air did not blow cold. Disconnected the battery for a few hours to reset the computer. That solved the problem.
Now, no lights, and the AC blows cold.

now that u changed atl did u rest codes have them reset ya or unplug battery for few min back in see if code comes back then ok

spray those switches (where the pedal go up to) with electric cleaner.

Alternator failure

The only way to know axactly what happen is with a diagnostic computer.
Because the ABS use a Speed sensor on each of the wheels.
Hydraulic selenoids on the ABS box or Module..
If the light is on. its mean the Anti Lock Brake System is inactive., You gonna brake like any car with no ABS.
