Where is the fuel filter on a 2004 saturn vue 3.5L? The car quit running this morning, tried to start back up but stalled again. Starts with starter fluid, but stalls. Dealer said try the fuel filter before replacing the fuel pump, but where is the filter at?

It is part of the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank, all the cars are starting to use this type of setup, the filter is only serviced when the fuel pump fails.

No, you can't disable it, you have to fix the problem, not try and find a way around it.
There is help to reset, but you probably need an auto electrician or a local place that installs alarms and remote starters. The both have pro grade scan tool computers to diagnose the problem.
Without knowing if there are more things happening, noises, clicks, whirr sounds, or even how hard you drive it...
It typically sounds like a bad or clogged fuel filter... Although I've had some cars do this in the past, once they were heated up and had to wait an hour ow two to start again... that generally meant the fuel pump needed to be replaced.
This is called a Vapor Lock... and try as you might, they will not start
So, before you start going through quite a few external sensors, idle air control motors and egr valves and etc, etc at 85 dollars a pop...
Considering changing the FUEL filter and pour a bottle of gas drier in your fuel tank. You could have some condensation in your fuel and it may be as simple as that.
However if this dont help or the problem starts happening again, I would replace the fuel pump.
Good chance that the fuel filter may be getting to the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. Start with the simple, a dirty and clogged fuel filter will not have a DTC code or a bad fuel pump. Replace the fuel filter and check your fuel pressure to ensure your fuel pump can still provide the proper fuel pressure. When you change these fuel filters, they are basically gravity fed from the tank if the tank is full enough.You sometimes have to just hurry up in the fuel filter install process and slip that filter back in quickly, a little bit(sometimes more) will be spillled on the ground, can catch it with a drain catch bucket.Any questions get back to me, I HOPE I COULD HELP!!!
