Gas Smell What would cause a gas smell while driving my 2005 Dodge Caravan? It is not an exhaust smell, but a gas smell.

Where is the smell coming from? Under hood? Rear/front of vehicle? It could be a leaky fuel injector... bad gas cap.... leaky fuel line... leaky tank/tank seal... disconnected evap line..... leaky pressure regulator to name a few. Have a pro inspect the fuel system to avoid a dangerous situation

Does the radiator fluid look milky? If so, you may have a blown head gasket.

possibly your O rings which isolates fuel injectors from engine block are getting old and letting gasoline go out. it is very dangerous since it can cause fire. do not drive.

another cause is broken loose or cracked fuel lines. this is equally dangerous since it is under hood close to hot exhaust manifold.

if smell is from exhaust manifold, which means not the smeel of gasoline but exhaust fumes, this can be caused by broken exhaust manifold or a crack on it or problematic exhaust manifold gasket.

Check the rubber hoses at the tank. If they're cracked replace them. A cracked rubber hose will allow the gas pump to **** air and make it hard to start and will cause you to smell gas.

Under the hood look very closely at the fuel rail and injectors for any signs of seepage. Under the car look very closely at the seal where the fuel pump is mounted to the fuel tank.

if you smell gas you may have a small gas leek someware

(ex: pinhole in the gsa tank, small home in the gas line)

dont test with water gas will pass threw a whole that water wont

What engine? Could be a hole in EGR tube if it's a 3.0L

neither one of these would cause gas to leak. sure it is not coolant ? if you think it is gas it is not safe to drive car as it could catch on fire. possible cause would be a leaking injector.

Sounds like you may need to inspect and replace your fuel line from front to rear. no other reason for your problem.

NO NO NO.....GO TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO A SMOG STATION AND ASK THEM TO TEST THE GAS CAP FOR YOU. VISUALLY LOOKING AT A GAS CAP WILL NOT TELL YOU GOOD OR BAD. THEY CHARGE 10.00 AND WILL TELL YOU IF THE GAS CAP IS LEAKING. DONE IT TOO MANY TIME WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER.
