The discovery is as previously mentioned permanent four wheel drive. However the difflock/range lever in most suffers from lack of use and siezes all i had to do when i bought mine was plenty of WD40 and patience as i don't think it had been in low range or difflock from the day it was built.don't try to force it just spray it and let it soak then try keep doing this and it should free up if not it may be the selector grubscrew has worked loose just threadlock it and screw it back in.
The linkage to the transfer box is broken, the transfer box is broken itself. Sometimes the 2wd/4wd lever can get very stiff to move.
The discovery is a full time 4wd. all wheels are enaged when moving. on the other hand, if you car is stuck in the Diff lock 4wd thats maybe your tranfer box gone.
With a 10mm spammer you can move the stud on the top of the transfer box (above the front prop shaft)
Can be tricky at times moving the 'small' shifter to the far right ( towards passenger door ) try it again at put some elbow grease
into it. youll know when it engages

The vehicle is all time four wheel drive, it cannot run in two wheel drive. The second shifter is for differential lock and high/low range selection.
